Fall Craft Day

It's late October so the customary "fall" activities must commence. Our charter school, COIL's, answer to cope with the "no holiday" dilemma is a seasonal craft day - filled supposedly with both holiday and non-holiday or seasonal activities that would appeal to all.

Unfortunately however, it's not appealing to all.  The purpose of activities like these is to have a forum for EVERYONE in COIL to get together and get to know one another especially those in the same grade level as you.  Despite their efforts to be non sectarian or to be less focused in the holidays, there were still sprinklings here and there and that's fine,  but was obviously lacking are the families that they are trying to encourage the community spirit to.  That however was not surprising.  In my opinion, there was a lack of promotion for the event and even if there were, the location was hard to find since signage was absent.  The event itself was not very festive and there were not enough activities there although I don't think they really need to since it only lasted an hour - not much time to socialize and do all the crafts if you want to.

True, this must be designed for the benefit of the lower grades but I remember Craft Day last year being more accessible to the higher grades as well. I wanted to volunteer my know how in party planning but then I realize, it would be all for not since the event is so short, there's really not enough time to enjoy the party even if it is done in a more exciting and engaging way.

So, fall craft day fell flat as far as I'm concern.  As for the girls, they're stuffed with candy so to them  it's all good!
