The Sprinkling

Another catch-up post....

I decided to slow down a bit this week after feeling a bit fatigued from the past few weeks of running around.  So despite wanting to stick to our regular library schedule on Tuesdays, the girls and I ended up having lunch at our favorite salad buffet restaurant and returned home soon after.  I was just not in the mood to go all over the place and the comfort (and chores) of home was beckoning us back.

The girls have been restless lately and I know that the culprit is lack of sleep.  They sleep later than usual again and despite getting enough of their recommended 11 hours, they are still quite wired and short tempered.  Remembering what I read from Simplicity Parenting, sometimes these are indicators that they need to slow down for a while to balance them out.  So that's what we're doing this week!  In fact, we may be skipping our Friday outing as well so I could make sure they get well rested enough so they won't be derailed again by this weekend's activities.

Being home of course does not mean summer slips by unnoticed.  We are spending more time outside in our small backyard, playing, tending to our little garden, planning on how we could make it better for next year's crops and for more outdoor play.  Then there's our front yard that's deprived of attention but thriving nonetheless.  We hope to plant more flowers to cut and simply weed out the flower beds so that the Roses and the Dahlia will continue to be happy in their places.  But sometimes it's best to let things go for a moment and enjoy the spontaneity that play brings.  I'm enjoying my copy of Amanda Soule's (and her hubby's) new book The Rhythm of Family and in one of her first essays, she noted that 'perhaps the most important thing to remember of all in these busy days of family life that our children's work is to play.'

No schedules, no class to attend or errand to run...just play!!!

I think we should take their lead and live in the moment as well.
