Life Training

The October Issue of Awake magazine was a special issue featuring articles on child rearing and parenting.  One particular point that I like is how children in many countries thrive because they are assimilated in the adult world at an early age. To many countries of course that means they are already working to contribute to the family's income and well being.  Here in our country where labor laws protect our children, assimilating children in the adult world simply means teaching them to be productive around the house and letting them feel that their contribution matters.

My girls are more than happy to take their part especially in the kitchen.  So, letting them wash the plastics and put away the dishes makes for a couple of happy and contented helpers.  They are also learning the open the windows for airing out daily, do some minor sweeping, vacuum, sort and fold laundry....not bad for a 5 and 4 year old.....now if I could just get them to pick up their toys and keep them clean.....baby steps....
