Feeding Their Sense of Wonder

I'm sure it's the title of a good book somewhere but that was the first thing that came to mind while looking back to the events of our day.  Of course, we still managed the daily routine of school, mid-week meetings (it's Thursday), homework and some house work (maybe).  But amidst the usual the one the usually rises up top is the unplanned moments when we get to remember to slow down to the pace of our children and remember that just as important as the daily necessities is to provide them with the time to play and explore.

Having a small home with a small yard, my girls are often limited by our immediate surroundings to run around and have a big adventure. So their request to go to the park or walk are often yet most of the time not quickly granted since it takes away from the work at home and sets us back quite a bit in our daily schedule.  But really at the end of the day, a sink full of dirty dishes is worth a few hours of fresh air, lots of wide-eye exploration and lasting memories.

One of the highlights of our time out today is to see Ickey finding her courage in doing something she had never done before...crossing the scary bridge in the play structure!  At first we were trying to rush her through it but it was really best to just let her take her time and do it when she really wanted to....she did and she was a very proud little girl having accomplished the once formidable.

You see we can learn a lot by being in "kid time."  In the haste of our day to day, it's an important lesson to be had....slow down, take a breath and take the time to see the little wonders that abounds all around us.
