Let's Leave the Car Behind

It's Friday so we are off to a new adventure with my brother (since it is his day off).  We decided to go forward with our plan from last week to take the girls to San Francisco via public transportation.  The girls have never been on the BART trains (or any train for that matter) so taking them in this new adventure was quite an experience.  We didn't get to go as early as planned since we had to make a necessary pit stop back to the doctors so that they could check the TB test they did on Mer last Wednesday....and yes, the girl panicked thinking she was in for more shots but thankfully, that did not ruin the rest of her day.

It was lots of fun but quite tiring since we had to walk long distances and those little legs can only take so much.  Thus, for the most parts we had to carry one or both.  So despite the picturesque surroundings which ideally mean lots of pictures between me and Allen, we both ended up with not very many since most of the time we were pretty much focused on the girls' safety and comfort.  Oh well, it was the experience that count!

We did get to take home a pretty remembrance of our little adventure - a couple of handmade beanies from a street vendor, an older woman who were making them on site.  Mer of course, opted for something pink but Ickey wanted something else besides the panda face we were offering her initially and picked something with a reddish tone instead (that's her fave color). Quite beautiful and quite a steal for $10 a piece.

So here's pretty much how our trip went:
- a BART ride from the East Bay to Powell Street
- a Cable car ride from Powell Street to Ghiradelli Square and Pier 39
- Clam Chowder lunch at Boudin on the Pier
- hung around Pier 39 for a little bit
- a pit stop at the Ben and Jerry's booth on the Pier
- a Street car ride from Pier 39 to Market Street
- a BART ride back from Market and Embarcadero to the East Bay

We all wanted a bit more time to hang around but since we started late, we just didn't have plenty.  Nevertheless, it was a day of new experiences and one that I'm sure the girls will never forget!
