Spontaneity....Best Practiced Often

The best days are usually the unplanned, unhurried days when you suddenly decide to brave the cold weather and discover more wonderful treasures right in your own backyard.  It felt like it was a perfect day for that so I bundled the girls and decided last minute to visit the Historic Farm just minutes away from our house.  I was having second thoughts with the overcast skies and 47 degree temperature but as resilient as the sun, we went ahead after lunch for a quick visit.

Ardenwood Historic Farms was certainly a treat and even with the quietness of the winter season for most of the farms inhabitants, we still had a great time discovering the monarch butterflies, the chickens, the sheep herd (yes, they found Shaun the Sheep amongst them), the bunnies and the cattle from a far.  But the most laughs came from the stubborn peacocks who were gorgeous but were constantly harassing the small children, mine included.

Veggies were being grown but would not be offered on the organic stand until the summer but it was nice for the girls to see the rows of beautiful colored greens in the wide open fields.

I for one was just enjoying the beautiful light and the different variation of the shadows from the tree-lined trails to the open gardens of the historic mansion and the sunlit barns where my girls talked to the animals though cautiously.  It made me remember how much I love simple things like that and how it's wonderful to be able to capture them for posterity....hmmm, maybe it'll inspire me to paint again?  Ehh...we'll see....baby steps!!

It was certainly an experience worth repeating...perhaps often...I think we'll be stopping by in one of the special events so we could see the park in action.  Overall,  it was definitely a great day!  Let's all be spontaneous every once and while and create beautiful memories in the process!
